    Course: Human Resources Competencies Certificate

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) recently developed two new certification exams—The SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) and the SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP)—to recognize that HR professionals are at the core of leading organizational success.
DePaul University now offers a certificate program to help HR Professionals prepare for these SHRM certification exams. The Human Resource Competencies Certificate: SHRM-CP and SCP Exam Preparation was designed primarily for individuals seeking SHRM credentials. In this program, you will focus on identifying and testing the knowledge and practical real-life experiences HR professionals around the world need to excel in an HR career today.
    The new SHRM certifications will:
    • Build on one singular Body of Competency and Knowledge (SHRM BoCK™) designed to elevate the HR profession around the world.
    • Test the HR professional’s competency—the ability to put that knowledge to work through critical thinking and application.
    • Demonstrate that the HR professional is a technical expert and has mastered the application of HR technical and behavioral competencies, through practice and experience, to drive business results.

    FAQ

    What are the credentials?
The new SHRM credentials, SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) and SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), are competency and knowledge-based credentials.

What is the foundation for the new SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP?
SHRM conducted an intensive research study to define the Competencies and Knowledge relevant to today's global HR professional. Through these efforts, a clear picture emerged of what is expected of future HR professionals and leaders. The SHRM Body of Competency & Knowledge (SHRM BoCK™)—designed to elevate the HR profession around the world—forms the foundation for the new SHRM certification.

Do I have to retest if I already hold an HR generalist certification from another organization?
    Yes.

What is the cost to take the exam?
The SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP exams are each $300 for SHRM members and $400 for non-members. (This price includes a $50 non-refundable processing fee.)

When can I take the exam?
For information on exam windows, visit the SHRM website at: https://www.shrm.org/certification/apply/exam-window-and-fees/pages/default.aspx.

Where can I take the exam?

The exam will be offered at test centers around the world via Prometric. Visit www.prometric.com/shrm to find the exam location nearest you.

Am I eligible for the new SHRM certification?
Eligibility for the SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP is determined based on a combination of education and experience. View the eligibility requirement at: https://www.shrm.org/certification/apply/eligibilitycriteria/pages/default.aspx.

How long will the exam be? How many questions are on the exam?
Candidates for the SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP exams will have 4 hours to answer a total of 160 questions, of which approximately 95 are stand-alone knowledge items and 65 will be situational judgment items.
    • Breakdown of Testing-Time:
    • Confidentiality Agreement: 2 minutes
    • Introduction and Tutorial: 8 minutes
    • Exam: 4 hours (240 minutes)
    • Survey: 5 minutes
How does the exam test HR Competencies?
Situational Judgment Tests (SJTs) measure Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other characteristics (KSAOs) and decision-making skills that cannot be easily measured by other aptitude tests (e.g., numerical, abstract or verbal). SJTs describe a work-related scenario that the test-taker might experience on the job and for each scenario, a variety of behavioral-based approaches to resolving the issue are suggested. Test-takers are asked to identify the most appropriate approach to resolving or addressing the scenario. Several questions may be based on the same scenario. SHRM has partnered with a premier test development organization with deep expertise in the design of situational judgment-based exams.
