Mission
The mission of the Adult Men of Color Initiative (AMOC) speaks to the recruitment, enrollment, retention, and empowerment of adult men of color at DePaul University’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS). The Initiative proudly advances higher education, lifelong learning, and degree attainment by developing leaders, strengthening family values, and building communities. Aligning Vincentian ideals of human dignity and social justice along with SCPS' essential commitments of valuing diversity, adult learning, and community in service to learning, the Initiative creates a culture of engagement. This culture transforms networks of mentoring, advising, and other shared relationships in addressing the critical concerns of adult men of color among fellow students, faculty, alumni, family, and friends. For more information email SCPSMenOfColor@depaul.edu.
Your Benefits
- Our Peer Mentorship program provides a group of alumni mentors who have been where you are and support your success. This program is designed to be an additional means of support for SCPS' African American, Hispanic, and Latino adult male students. Research shows mentoring and advising are effective tools for helping students progress and navigate university resources.
- Participation makes you eligible for scholarship assistance. Qualifying AMOC members can apply for the Scott-Fender Endowed Diversity scholarship. Go to DePaul Scholarship Connect, sign in with your DePaul username and password credentials, complete the general application questions, set up a profile, and identify the scholarship name.
- Gain the opportunity to network with fellow students, graduates, and professionals.
- Veterans are welcome.
Message from the Director
Dear SCPS Adult Men of Color,
Founding donor Bertram L. Scott (L) and Dr. John LittleJohn Jr. Director of AMOC Initiative.
Welcome! The Adult Men of Color Initiative (AMOC) promotes a strategic vision for engagement that features four areas of attention: Recruitment, Enrollment, Retention, and Empowerment. Our advisory board of DePaul University’s faculty, advisors, staff, and alumni encourages you to explore the benefits of joining this Initiative. And in doing so, remember to take advantage of the many resources available to you as a DePaul and SCPS student, including scholarships and the DePaul Career Center with job fairs, workshops, lecture series, and other worthwhile opportunities.
If you have not registered for the next quarter, there still may be time to do so. Please do not hesitate to phone SCPS at (312) 362-8001 to get detailed information about the enrollment process and available courses offered each quarter. You can email scpsgrad@depaul.edu (undergraduate) or scpsgrad@depaul.edu (graduate) to contact your academic advisor and/or faculty mentor. We look forward to hearing from you!
Sincerely,
